Indian Athletics – News – Asian Youth Games – India sends 27 athletes for Asian Youth Games
New Delhi – 30 July 2013 – The Athletics Federation of India has selected 27 youth athletes, including 13 girls, for the 2nd Asian Youth Games to be held in August at Nanjing (China).
The multi-sport Asian Youth Games for boys and girls under the age of 18 years was first held in Singapore, four years ago, wherein Indian track and field athletes garnered 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
In order to give more opportunity for aspiring youngsters to gain international exposure, AFI recently conducted an open selection trials at Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education in Thiruvananthapuram on 26th July 2013.
As much as 126 athletes took part in the above trials, from which the following athletes have been selected.
BOYS
100m: Soumya Deep Saha (Bengal) and Mohit (Haryana)
200 and 400m: Mohan Kumar (Tamil Nadu)
800m: Mohammad Afzal (Kerala)
1500m: Shashi Bhushan Singh (Bengal) and Ajay Kumar Saroj (Haryana)
3000m: Abhishek Pal (Uttar Pradesh)
400m Hurdles: Paramveer Singh (Haryana)
High Jump: Ajay Kumar (Haryana)
Shot Put: Malkeet Singh (Punjab) and Ankit Tomer (Delhi)
Discus Throw: Parveen Kumar (Rajasthan) and Nirbhay Singh (Haryana)
Hammer Throw: Prakash Singh (Uttar Pradesh)
GIRLS
100 and 200m: Dutee Chand (Odisha)
400m: G K Vijayakumari (Karnataka)
800m: Anjana Thamke (Maharashtra)
3000m: Sanjivani Jadhav (Maharashtra)
2000m Steeplechase: Lovely Tiwari (Uttar Pradesh)
100m Hurdles: Ankta Gosavi (Maharashtra)
