Moscow Marathon. September 15, 2013. The first real city marathon in Moscow.

By GRR 0

42 kilometres and 195 metres around the city and together with the whole city. A marathon is not just the kilometres to run from start to finish. A marathon is the history in which everyone who crosses the finish line is the winner.

To run this classic Moscow distance is a rare chance to join the unique history of the marathon movement. Moscow is one of the largest cities in the world, and one day the Moscow Marathon may stand side by side with the world's most famous races. In 2013 it will be held for the first time. No one has run this route before. This means that not only the one who reaches the finish line faster than the others will be the champion, but all the participants.

Moscow Marathon route will follow the quays, main streets, Sadovoe and Bulvarnoe Rings. The race will start from "Luzhniki" sports complex built for the Olympic Games. The final meters will be at the Olympic Stadium, "Luzhniki" Grand Sports Arena. This part of the route is unique in its own way. After 2013 the Olympic Stadium will be rebuilt and Moscow Marathon will be the last major sporting event to take place on its site. The fact that everyone can take part in Moscow Marathon makes this finish very special: a tribute and farewell to the last part of the history of sport in Moscow.

Moscow Marathon. It's not just 42 kilometres, not just a marathon distance. It's not just an opportunity to see Moscow on the run. It's an opportunity to do something for the first time. It's history anyone can enter. All you need is a wish. These 42 kilometres will be unique for all the participants: those who run their first marathon, and those who have won international competitions, for volunteers who will be working on the course, spectators and fans. Moscow Marathon. Your first 42 kilometres.

To prepare for the marathon without losing motivation along the way, find soul mates and just enliven the workouts, preliminary Moscow Marathon races will be held in Moscow from April to September. Everyone can take part in the competitions. Together we will make this a most interesting and memorable Moscow running season.
