The Wings for Life World Run is an entirely new type of event never before seen or undertaken in either running or any other sporting field. Why? Because it is a truly global adventure, encompassing up to forty locations, in which everyone runs at the very same time all over the world!

100% of the proceeds from the event will go to the Wings for Life foundation, which funds research into curing spinal cord injury.

The run will unite athletes around the world, in one race running for those who can't!

Simultaneously Running All Over the World

Simultaneously Running All Over the World

The Wings For Life World Run is the first event in which the entire World can race together, simultaneously. This groundbreaking race format means that on the 4th of May 2014, at 10am UTC, and equivalent times across the globe, thousands of competitors will start to run on up to forty courses worldwide. On this day the world will run as one.

One Global Run for Everyone

The Wings for Life World Run is for runners of all levels, from first-timers and passionate amateurs to professional athletes.

Running for those who can't

By running in the Wings For Life World Run you will not only be participating in a unique global sporting event but you will also be taking precious sets towards finding a cure for debilitating spinal cord injury. 100% of proceeds from the Wings For Life World Run will go towards Wings For Life, a foundation that funds research into finding a cure for spinal cord injury: Finding a cure for spinal cord injury is a matter of when not if.

Unique running Experience

The format of the Wings For Life World Run is a first in not only in running but also of all sporting events. Routes will be defined but runners will not be running a set distance, as unlike normal races the finish line is chasing them rather than them running towards it; in short you know where you start, but you do not know your finish. This is how it works: half an hour after the start signal sounds and the first runners leave the start line official catcher cars will simultaneously set off at each course, pursuing the runners. This pace will accelerate at determined intervals to a rigid global schedule. When the catcher car passes a runner their race is over and its time to catch the shuttle back to start area and celebrate.

Unique running Experience Global Champions

Global Champions

As the race progresses the official catcher cars accelerate, eliminating competitors as they pass them, until there's a single man and woman left running. Only they will be crowned the Global Champions of the Wings for Life World Run. Additionally, there will be location champions, as well as country champions; they will be the final male and female left on the track at each location and in each country.

The calculator will show you where the official catcher car will overtake the runners and finish their race. Welcome to the first simultaneous World running race!

Why join the Wings for Life World Run

Running for those who can't

The Wings for Life World Run will be an incredible sporting experience for the thousands of athletes who run around the World. But their achievements will not only be physical, as every penny of each entry fee goes to the Wings For Life foundation and their quest for a cure for spinal cord injury.

THERE ARE 130,000 TRAUMATIC SPINAL CORD INJURIES EVERY YEAR

Traditional medicine has tended to treat the consequences of spinal cord injury, while progress towards finding a cure has largely been driven by private initiatives and charities like Wings for Life.

Despite this, according to Wings for Life and its CEO, Anita Gerhardter, finding a cure is still a matter of when not if: “Developments so far give us strong hope that treatment options are closer than ever” says Anita “and this event will help to accelerate scientific progress”.

THE MAIN CAUSES OF SPINAL CORD INJURIES ARE ACCIDENTS IN DAILY LIFE

The Wings for Life World Run will not only raise much needed funds for Wings for Life but will also give global attention to the foundation, its work and the plight of those suffering from spinal cord injury.

"I think that everyone who can run, hike or cycle is privileged" said Dušan Mravlje, a Slovenian Ambassador for the Run. "I appeal to everyone who can run to show up at the start of this event and help these people to possibly run again one day".

100% OF THE PROCEEDS FOR THE WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN WILL GO TO WINGS FOR LIFE

Wings for Life was founded by two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner and the founder of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, after Kinigadner’s son was paralyzed in a tragic accident. Their mission is to help all those affected by spinal cord injury.
