COMRADES MARATHON – Donation of Printers
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) did the official handover of two digital printers to local schools in the Pietermaritzburg area as part of its Greater Edendale Race Schools Category competition.
CMA Vice Chairman, Macdonald Chitja together with CMA Marketing Coordinator, Thami Vilakazi presented the printers to the principals of the respective schools.
Esigodini Public Primary School and Henryville Primary School, both based in Edendale, were the recipients of the state-of-the-art printers after they won the Schools category for most entries of the Greater Edendale Race and Fun Run event.
Principal of Esigodini Public Primary School, Mr CM Bhengu says, ‘We are very honoured to be presented with this Canon printer. This is a truly valuable resource that our school children have secured for our school through their enthusiasm and joy for community events, especially running.'
Principal of Henryville Primary School, Mrs DHS Ngcobo says, ‘We are over the moon with the prize from the Comrades Marathon. This could not have come at a better time for the school which has just undergone renovations, coupled with the fact that one of our printers has been broken and needed replacing.'
Having been hosted for the sixth year, the Greater Edendale Race and Fun Run has become a highly anticipated community initiative and proven to be a major sports attraction in Edendale.
Over the years, local school teachers have shown a heightened sense of optimism for the event as participating schools compete with each other for the two main ‘school prizes'.
Macdonald Chitja who is also the convener of the Greater Edendale Race Organising Committee says, ‘Our goal is to be all-inclusive and to get our young ones to also participate in the activities of the Comrades Marathon Association. We are grateful to all educators at the various schools who showed an interest and took part in the Schools competition category.'
