Athletics New Zealand – News – Wreford and Molloy Take Out Auckland Marathon Titles

Sam Wreford lead todays adidas Auckland Marathon from start to finish to take the title from Stephen Lett and defending champion Rowan Walker from Australia.

Wreford, from Timaru,  recorded a  time of 2:18:57, the fastest time since Dale Warrander set a race record of 2:17:43 seven years ago in 2006.

Wreford held a two minute lead at the half way point and continued to extend that to win by six minutes.

The women's marathon was won by Kirsten Molloy from Australia in 2:52:24 from Wellington's Angela Leck and Kelly Parlane from Auckland.

Molloy broke away from the lead bunch with eight kilometres to run, winning by almost two minutes.
                                                                                               
The men's half marathon was won by Oska Inkster-Baynes in 67:26 from Jonno Jackson and Josh Maisey, while Danielle Ingram-Trevis took out the women's half marathon in 79:29.

Almost 17,000 took part in the Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon, 5km and Kids events.

Men Half Marathon
1 Oska Inkster-Baynes (Wanaka) 1:07:26, Jonno Jackson (Auckland) 1:07:46, 3 Josh Maisey (Auckland) 1:09:05.
Women Half Marathon
1 Danielle Ingram-Trevis (Auckland) 1:19:29, 2 Gabbrielle O'Rourke (Wellington) 1:21:31, 3 Candice Hammond (Cambridge) 1:25:01.
