„Everybody waltz“ at the Vienna City Marathon 2014!
“Everybody waltz!“ is the motto for the Vienna City Marathon 2014! Vienna is the city of the Waltz and a Music capital. The dance in ¾ time is the perfect expression of a feeling for life: classic, dynamic and celebrating life itself. The marathon shares this rhythm. In the past the Vienna City Marathon has begun to the strains of “The Blue Danube”.
In 2014 the Vienna Waltz will be at the heart of the VCM, reflecting the spinning and floating dance movement for which Vienna is famous.
A revolution in dancing
When the waltz became popular about 200 years ago it was heavily criticised for morale reasons. The waltz was seen as the “main source of weakness of the body and mind of our generation”. It gained ground due to to the Congress of Vienna at the beginning of the 19th century and the famous compositions by Josef Lanner and Johann Strauss. The Waltz simply revolutionized dancing. Before the waltz all the dancers on the floor took part in a pre-set pattern. With the waltz, people expressed their freedom of movement, regardless of social boundaries in close contact to each other.
The waltz in Vienna and at the VCM
The waltz is at the heart of annual balls like the famous “Opernball” at the Vienna State Opera. The melodies and sounds of Johann Strauss take centre stage each year at the [New Years Concert of the Vienna Philharmonics].
Let yourself be surprised by the music of the Waltz and its dance! There’s no better place to enjoy it than at the Vienna City Marathon!
