Marathon & Lifestyle Travel Specialists – Christmas is just under a month away. Yikes!

For those who like classical music and chocolate we're launching a couple of new marathons this week that you'll find difficult to resist. In bringing these new events to runners we continue our commitment to bring you new and exciting events rather than just rest on our laurels with same old, same old. We love travelling to new events around the world and we're fairly sure you do too.

This week's newsletter is full of interesting events, running news and another recipe (it's been a while). There is so much happening at the moment we could probably write a newsletter every other day with something different each time. But we won't put you through that.

For those of you tempted to join us at the Great Wall Marathon in 2014, we've posted some images on Instagram to whet your appetite. Early birds close 30 November!

And remember…. when you think of travelling to an event, think about travelling with the marathon and lifestyle travel experts.

The Choco Marathon…. Ohhhh Yes!

Just when you thought Italy couldn't get any better we bring you the Choco Marathon, held in the gorgeous town of Perugia. Perugia is the capital town of Umbria, which is situated close by Tuscany, so everything you ever wanted is at your fingertips. Including chocolate.

Choose from the marathon, half marathon or a marathon relay. Contact us now for further details!

Mozart 100 Ultra Marathon

This event takes place on the ultra scenic trails of Sound of Music and is one of the most beautiful ultras in Europe.

The Mozart 100 starts and finishes in the beautiful city of Salzburg and for those who prefer a shorter option there's also the Scenic 55(km), Scenic Light (25km) and the City Trail (11km).

Enjoy one of the most magnificent regions of Austria with beautiful forests, meadows, hills, rivers, towns and lakes. The hills really will be alive when you run in Salzburg. Contact us now for further details

Brighton…. the Best of England

This event has sold out – again – which goes to show the popularity that surrounds the Brighton Marathon.

The finish line, past the Brighton Pier and along Madeira Drive, is one of the most exhilarating anywhere in the world as the runners pour past the Brighton Eye.

Brilliant organisation, excellent expo, beachfront finish, excellent destination!

If you've ever wanted to run an event that has it all, try Brighton… you won't regret it. RunFun Travel has limited entries still available. Contact us for details.

Marathon World Record Ratified
Last newsletter we brought you the news of Wilson Kipsang being awarded the AIMS Best Marathoner Award and just to show he's hot at the moment, Wilson is again in the news, having his world record ratified.

The IAAF has ratified Wilson's World Record of 2:03:23, set in Berlin a few weeks ago, breaking the previous record of 2:03:38 set by Patrick Makau at the 2011 Berlin Marathon.

Kipsang's was the ninth marathon world record set in Berlin since 1977, of which five were in the past 10 years.

Speedgolf World Champs
Hit, run, repeat. That's Speedgolf, which I know a lot about as Dave participates in this type of game quite frequently.
But this is a world wide phenomenon and the Speedgolf World Championships were recently held in Oregon. Don't laugh… this is serious stuff!
It's simple – add your golf score to your running time for 18 holes and there you have it. Lowest number wins.
Most players carry four or five clubs in a lightweight bag they hold with one hand as they run.
If you're still laughing give this some thought. The winner, Rob Hogan (Ireland) completed his first round with 77 strokes and a running time of 39mins 31secs. His second round he took 79 shots and a running time of 41:24, for a total of 236:55.
Second was Eric Crum, a former teammate of Tiger's at Stanford, with a score of 242.34.
For the most part, the sport appeals to golfers but the recent championships saw Nick WIllis (NZ) and Bernard Lagat (USA) turn out. Willis was in sixth place after the first round (86 in 44:20) but faded on Sunday, placing 13th after a 97 and 43:07 in the final round, though he had the second best run time both days.
Lagat (1500 & 5,000m world champ 2007 ), who doesn't play much golf, shot 118 in 48:26 on Saturday followed by 110 in 47:38 on Sunday.
One thing is certain…. it's nowhere near as easy as it sounds and just cause you can run fast doesn't mean you can win. Nor am I envisaging John Daly winning any time soon either.

One Last Thing – Roast Massaman Chicken
Weekend before last it was bucketing rain and downright miserable. We needed comfort food.
I dug out my favourite cooking mag, ABC Delicious, and tried the Roast Massaman Chicken.
In a word….. unbelievable. I've posted it our our blog, The Gourmet Runner, if you feel like making a name for yourself in the kitchen!
