RUNNING GERMANY: BERLIN – The “15th Burn of the Christmas Goose“ Run, the turn of the year races in Berlin.

By GRR 0

You can burn off calories in the Grunewald Forest on the day after Christmas, on December 26 (thursday), 2013, at the 15th Berlin “Burn off the Christmas Goose“ Run. Bernd Hübner invites you to join in the ultimate running recreation in the forest.

The Christmas goose traditionally joins Santa Claus in the run. At the ranger station Saubucht (Bay of Pigs), the long-time forest ranger Hans Lippert will be presented with a traditional thank you present from the runners in Berlin for his year-round refreshment water service in the middle of the forest.

We will all jog together for 60 minutes. There will be Christmas cookies and coffee at the finish in the stadium.

The meeting point is 10 a.m. at the Mommsen Stadium, Waldschulallee 34 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. You can shower and change in the stadium.

No pre-registration is necessary, just come and join in. Bernd Hübner, the former record holder with 36 participations in the BERLIN-MARATHON is the organizer of the traditional fun-run.

At the turn of the year there are two traditional races in Berlin.

the 38th Berlin New Years Eve Run – the "Donut Run"
on Tuesday, December 31st at 12:00 noon “Around the Teufelsberg Mountain"
the 43rd Berlin New Years Day Run on January 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the    Brandenburg Gate – the charity race for the Björn-Schulz-foundation.

Both traditional races belong to the end of the year rituals of the Berlin running community. The "Donut Run" has established itself over the past few years as a costume run. Shortly before the first start at 12 noon there is a competition for the best costume (you have to be able to run in it, too!).

On January 1, 2014, at 12:00 noon, the meeting point for the Berlin running community is the Pariser Platz at the Brandenburg Gate.

The 43rd Berlin New Years Day Run is only 4 km. The FUN RUN takes you down the boulevard “Under the Linden“. This run, which is a fun running demonstration with musical instruments without any competitive character, is also a solidarity race to raise money for the the foundation. Instead of an organisational fee, the participants are asked to bring along a donation.

You do not have to register, just come and join in, and help “run in“ the New Year 2014.
