RUNNING USA – NEWS – USA Today Features Running USA Race Data

 

Running USA data was included in a sports snapshot in the Dec. 26, 2013 edition of USA Today, featuring the nation's favorite race distances.

This brings the number of USA Today infographics featuring Running USA data to six in 2013.

The data reflects the popularity of the half-marathon for American runners. More than 40 percent selected the 13.1 distance as their favorite race.

Approximately 30,000 runners who participated in the 2013 National Runner Survey were  included in the survey response.

 

 

Running USA data was included in another front page snapshot in the Nov. 27, 2013 edition of USA Today, featuring the nation's largest fully timed Turkey Trot finishes in 2012.

See our Turkey Trot infographic for further illumination of the popularity of Thanksgiving Day runs. In 2011, there were 698,000 people trotting on Thanksgiving Day, whether for competition, camaraderie, or just to cut down a few of the calories they planned to consume later.

That far and away surpasses the number of people who raced on the Fourth of July – 248,000 – or in New Year's Day "Resolution Runs," which rang in at 81,000 in 2011.

In 2012, Thanksgiving Day race finishers had grown to 858,000, and 2013 could see 1 million Turkey Trot finishers!

Running USA data was included in another sports snapshot in the Sept. 12, 2013 edition of USA Today. The infographic featured the finisher totals for the nation's four largest half-marathon events in 2012.

 

 

Last month, Running USA data was featured in another stats snapshot that included participation numbers at the half-marathon race distance.

Since 2003, the half-marathon has been the fastest growing race distance in the United States, and its popularity continues to soar. That was backed up by this sports snapshot in the Tuesday, Aug. 27 edition of USA Today with statistics from Running USA.
