Winter race in Tromsø/Norway on 4 January 2014 – Polar Night Halfmarathon

By GRR 0

Polar Night Halfmarathon is the largest winter race in Norway and takes part in the arctic city of Tromsø.  The race takes part in the polar night period, which lasts from November 21st  until January 21st.

The polar night occurs when the night last more than 24 hours. This only occurs inside the polar circle. The opposite phenomenon, when the sun stays above the horizon for a long time is called the polar day, or midnight sun.

The first Polar Night Half-Marathon took part in 2004 and has been more and more popular for runners from all over the world. You can choose between three distances:  21.1K, Mørketids-mila (10K) or SATS Mørketidsrim (5K without timing).

If the weather allows it, the track will be lit with candles.
