A race through history at the UNESCO Cities Marathon – Cividale del Friuli and Aquileia
The distance between the two sites is exactly 42km, and the course takes a fast and flat southerly route starting in Cividale del Friuli, passing through Palmanova (pictured below) and finishing in Aquileia.
As well as the marathon, the relay race on the schedule could act as a suitable warm-up for runners limbering up for a spring marathon. The first runner takes the longer 25.6km leg from Cividale to Palmanova, and the second relay racer will run the 16.595km from Palmanova to Aquileia.

The UNESCO Cities Marathon will be accompanied this year by the Iulia Augusta Run, an individual 16.595km race which covers the final marathon stretch. It will start from Piazza Grande, in Palmanova, and finish in Piazza Capitolo in Aquileia, in front of the famous Basilica.
The organisers have also arranged the Iulia Augusta Walk, which takes place on the same 16.595km stretch as the Iulia Augusta Run.
Some 266 runners finished the first edition of the marathon last year led by Ruggero Pertile in 2:16:20. The first woman to finish was Elisa Stefani in 2:40:53.
