Thousands sign up for 30th Dam tot Damloop/NED running event – Still possible to register for Damloop by night

By admin 0

Today thousands of runners joined a virtual queue in the hope of gaining a start number for the 30th edition of the annual Dam tot Damloop running event. Start numbers for the 10 English Mile race sold out within a few hours for the fifth year in a row.

This makes Dam tot Damloop the largest and by far the most popular running event in the Netherlands. As many as 65,000 runners will be out in force on the weekend of 20 and 21 September.

The new Damloop by night will be one of the highlights of the anniversary event. A maximum of 15,000 runners can take part in the 4 English Mile race in Zaandam on Saturday evening. This is the first time that the organisers, Le Champion, have issued so many start numbers for the shortest distance.

More than 5,000 runners signed up for Damloop by night on the day registration opened. Runners who want to take part in this special evening edition can register through the www.damloop.nl website. The closing date for registration for Mini Dam tot Damloop events for children in Amsterdam and Zaandam is 24 August.

Running for charity

Runners who still want to compete in the 10 English Mile race can join one of the teams running for charity. In exchange for a start number, runners are asked to guarantee a certain amount in sponsorship. Runners can register directly with the participating charities listed on the website. The Dam tot Damloop is an important fundraising opportunity for many charities. If the € 1,180,000 raised for eighty charities last year is anything to go by, that promises to be the case again this year.

Dam tot Dam Weekend

The Dam tot Damloop is part of the Dam tot Dam Weekend, which, with over 87,000 participants, is the largest sporting weekend in the Netherlands. On Saturday 20 September Le Champion will also be organising the Dam tot Dam Wandeltocht walking event for 16,000 walkers. The following day up to 6,000 cyclists will compete in the Dam tot Dam FietsClassic cycling event.

Registration for these events is possible through the respective websites www.damtotdamwandeltocht.nl and www.damtotdamfietsclassic.nl.
