USA Track & Field extends our congratulations as well as our profound thanks to Meb for his win today at the Boston Marathon. What he has accomplished should be a source of pride for all Americans. Since 2004, Meb has set the standard for what American marathoners can achieve.
With everything that was at stake at the 2014 Boston Marathon, this must rank as one of the greatest American marathon performances in history. Thank you, Meb.
Shalane Flanagan’s gutsy performance in the women’s race, in the morning’s first wave of starts, set the tone that Americans were running today to make a statement.
Not just the elite athletes, but all the runners on the streets of Boston joined in making that statement.
