Salzburg Marathon 2014 on May, 4th – Austrian National Marathon Championships – Some news for the 11th edition of the running festival in Mozart’s hometown.

Similarly to two years ago, the Austrian National Marathon Championships are held at Salzburg Marathon 2014. The organizer expects to welcome more than 1,000 marathon runners in Mozart’s hometown for the first time in event’s history. „First, this is a great opportunity for Austrian athletes to show a good performance here in Salzburg and second, we have clearly more finishers in the sector between the top and the top of the midfield“, organizer Johannes Langer says.

For the first time since many years, the Austrian Athletics Association ÖLV has awarded both most important national championships in road running to the same host city – the Austrian National Half Marathon Championships are held on October, 5 at the Jedermannlauf.

Many Highlights

The traditional marathon is the highlight-competition at the Salzburg Marathon 2014. But most runners prefer to run a half marathon, which has been the biggest competition at the Salzburg Marathon in 2013 with more than 2,400 registered participants. A very emotional highlight at the event-weekend is the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon taking place the evening before: Last year, nearly 1,500 kids and teens between six and fifteen years competed on the course through the historic center of Salzburg.

This is New

Compared to last year, the relay marathon is replaced as competition. Instead, all the participants of the 10k Salzburg City-Run can additionally to their participation in the single event compete together with three team-mates in a team-ranking. This format reinforces the team-feeling: preparing together, starting together and reuniting shortly behind the finish line.

There are no more costs necessary, simply register for the single event and name the same team-name as the team-mates.

Second, the organizer optimates the 21.0975 kilometre-long course through the city of Salzburg lightly. „We want to reduce some curves“, Langer explains. The flat course is going to be measured regarding the AIMS/IAAF rules in March. The marathon will start at Rudolfskai, directly on the left side of river Salzach, and finish again at Residenzplatz.
