We were also exposed to the culture of rhino poaching in South Africa and saw first hand the devastation it wreaks. A visit to Care for Wild was also a highlight.
This week we are also welcoming Rik Workman as a contributing blogger on our website and we look forward to keeping up with Rik as he runs the world.
I'm not a fan of the cold weather but it's great for running. With that in mind, this week we've got a mix of events you can train for and those you might like to escape to during the colder months.

| Safari Highlights
Following the AIMS Congress in Durban, a group of marathon organisers and runners from around the world came together on the Comrades Safari, organised by Paul Selby, of 1000km Promotions. Our 10d journey involved some of the most stunning scenery and endless wildlife encounters.
The highlights were never ending but include: Hluhluwe Game Reserve, Swaziland, the Care for Wild animal sanctuary, Amarula (liqueur) welcome to Kruger in the darkness of the park, our days of game spotting in open vehicles, seeing a lion with his fresh kill on the side of the road, coming across a cheetah with her 3wk old cub and cruising on the Blyde River Canyon. Too numerous to mention but the memories will last forever. Paul really organised the "Safari of Awesomeness."
You can view photos from the Safari on our Instagram page.

He has spent time in Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, is currently in Turkey and has many more destinations to come. Here he relates his wonderful experience with living, running and archaeology in the gateway to Asia.
We will be following Rik's travels with regular updates in our blog, the Gourmet Runner. Here's an excerpt from Rik's current blog:
"A delicate breeze swept across the room from the open window as I lay awake, looking out over the North Aegean Sea. It was 5:30am in Ayvalik, Turkey, and I was awaiting the call to prayer, my signal to pull shorts, lace up running shoes, and break ground over time-worn streets…… click here to continue.
