Sechseläutenplatz will be the location of yet another visitor attraction this summer: Construction work for the House of Switzerland, which will serve as the heart the Zürich 2014 City Festival, will begin this Friday.

As of 9 August, the famous Presence Switzerland building will help transport the Letzigrund Stadium buzz and the feel of the European Athletics Championships Zürich 2014 (12  ̶  17 August) to the city centre.

The European Athletics Championships will be the largest sport event Switzerland has hosted in years – and everyone can be part of the action at the City Festival. Zürich 2014 sponsors and partners will stage exciting events and activities, including games and sweepstakes. 3D shows on the front facade of the Zurich Opera House will be merging athletics and art on each night of the festival.

House of Switzerland to premier in Switzerland

Members of the Swiss Armed Forces will help the Zürich 2014 promoters set up the modular House of Switzerland as of this Friday. 12 experts will be putting the 192 spruce wood modules of the building together within four weeks. The modules, made from glued laminated timber, were manufactured last year.

“The House of Switzerland is a sustainable and mobile wood construction reflecting Swiss architecture and design in a creative from. It’s a perfect tool to present our country to the word,” explained Ambassador Nicolas Bideau, Head of Presence Switzerland at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The House of Switzerland has been used as a platform to portray Switzerland and the Swiss (exhibitions, information areas, activities) on the occasion of major events, and proved a big hit at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Admission is free for all visitors.
