29. Swiss Alpine Marathon Davos/Suisse – Buud and Zimmermann win Swissalpine 2014
Even in his eighth start at the Swissalpine Marathon in Davos was Jonas Buud unbeatable. On Saturday the Swede celebrated his eighth consecutive victory and thus equalled the previous "record" by Birgit Lennartz; the German had ruled the mountain running classics from 1994 to 2001 continuously.
Buud required 6:30:18 hours for the 79 km with 2660 meters of climb. He left his competition, in difficult external conditions, 8:33 minutes and more behind. An excellent performance was made by Beat Ritter from Pontresina. In his second participation in the Swiss Alpine after 2010 (7th place), he placed second and as best Swiss competitor. In third place finished the 20-year old German Mirco Berner.
Denise Zimmermann won the women's race won in a time of 7 hours 47 minutes and 57 seconds. It is the first podium at the Swissalpine for the woman from Mels.
Behind her Claudia Kahl (GER-Meiringen) and Ornella Poltéra (Chur) came in second and third.
