It has been 50 years from the moment when the marathon in Košice for this one case changed its autumn term.

Runners stand on the starting line on August 8th 1964.

The reason was the October Olympics in Tokyo in the same time.

Well, so long time ago before todays trend of night runs runners and spectators in Košice experienced evening start and finish late after sunset.

It was the most delightful time for Pavel Kantorek who scored the summer and his third overall victory at Kosice Marathon.

About the race

Marathon 42,195 KM
The classic marathon of 42,195 km long. The town circuit, without a significant ascent, with a hard asphalt surface is undertaken by the marathon runners twice. Runners in the half marathon do one round. The races take place according to the IAAF rules, with the exclusion of public transport. The course has a valid IAAF/AIMS certificate.
