European Athletics (EA) – News – Team Europe announced for IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakesh

A number of gold medal winners from the European Athletics Championships in Zurich will line up for Team Europe at the IAAF Continental Cup to be held in Marrakesh, Morocco, from 13-14 September.

In total 85 athletes from 24 Member Federation countries will represent Europe at the Continental Cup.

Besides Europe, three other continental teams: Americas (NACAC and CONSUDATLE), Africa and Asia/Pacific (Asia and Oceania), will also be in contention for global supremacy.

Performance at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich was used as the primary criterion for selection of Team Europe.

Two athletes per team will compete in each individual event, while in the 1500m, 3000m, 3000m steeplechase and 5000m each team will be able to field three athletes with the scores of only two athletes taken into account for the overall team tally.

Team standings will be determined by the overall total of men's and women's points combined.

As far as scoring is concerned, in individual events the 1^st athlete will receive 8pts; 2nd: 7pts; 3rd: 6pts; and so on. The athlete in the 8^th position will just get 1pt.

In the relays, the winner will pocket 15pts; 2nd: 11pts; 3rd: 7pts; 4th: 3pts.
