BLACKMORE’S SYDNEY RUNNING FESTIVAL MARATHON, AUSTRALIA – 21 SEPTEMBER 2014
More than 34,000 people ran and walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to finish lines at the Opera House and Conservatorium of Music in the 14th edition of the Festival.
Four thousand competed in the Marathon. An overcast morning created a slick course underfoot for runners from 57 countries as they made their way over four separate courses.
Ethiopa scored wins in both categories in record times, with Women's winner Beruktait Degefa defending her title and improving her own race record by over three minutes. Finishing 10th in the men's race was Olympic bronze and silver medallist Erick Wainaina (Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 — he also finished 7th in Athens 2004).
Race director Wayne Larden said: "lots of international runners; two records broken; and the sun is out. Everyone is happy; it's been a good day."
