Halfmarathon
The idea of including half distance race into the Kosice Peace Marathon started up more than a decade ago. It took root immediately and lead to a successful candidacy to hold the 6th IAAF World Halfmarathon Championship in 1997. In its current form the half-marathon has a clear goal – to offer an alternative to for those who do indeed run, but 42.195 m is for them a little `more than they can chew`.
In the other hand the half-marathon is geared also towards runners who do have some experience with the marathon, but have gone wrong in training or other reasons have stopped them from taking part in the full marathon distance.
They pleased that the number of participants in this catagory increases year by year and more girls and women appear at the starting line. Brano Koniar and his team trust that soon they will also bravely tick off `marathon` on their applications.

On Saturday morning there was – 42.00 km away from Kosice – a ceremony took place in Turna at the starting point of the first Kosice Marathon 1924 at a memorial stone of the race.
The mayor of the town gave a speech commemorating the first race on 28.10.1924, the President of the Marathon Club of Kosice Dr. Stefan Dano welcomed the guests from the Athens Marathon, the Boston Marathon and the Berlin Marathon, the president Hans Jürg Wirz and Paco Borao, and the organizers of other marathons.
Thereafter, a run was symbolically started with eight runners, as in 1924, which made off with a torch on the way to Kosice.
A reception at a nearby restaurant rounded off the ceremony. Here the memory of the Kosice Marathon was also kept awake with photos from the history of the run from the winners of this historical race.
Race Director Brano Koniar and his team organized the biggest sporting event in the country – and they have the support of many institutions in the country – with this long tradition.
They have a Kosice-Marathon stamp of this event for the anniversary, a more coins comprehensive set of the Kosice Marathon and of course a new book with the 90 years of history of the race.
More almost does not work!
Big Congratulations for 90 years hard work from the running community of the world.
