GERMAN MEETINGS – DUESSELDORF: 10th „PSD Bank Meeting“ Duesseldorf 2015: Six World leads 2015 – Gabius sets German national record in the 5,000m
Duesseldorf, 29 Januar 2015. Six World leads, one German national record and a live appearance of pop and soul singer Stefanie Heinzmann marked the atmospheric 10th edition of the „PSD Bank Meeting“ in front of a sell-out crowd of 2,000 at the Athletics Hall at Arena Sportpark in Duesseldorf.
„On the occasion of the 10th PSD Bank Meeting we have once again achieved to top the previous meetings and experienced a fantastic event. Stefanie Heinzmann in the preliminaries, Arne Gabius, who set a new German record in the 5,000m and many other top performances provided a worthy frame for the tenth meeting.
Once again the spectators triggered the special atmosphere very much appreciated in particular by the athletes. Two hours live broadcast on Eurosport show: The PSD Bank Meeting in the sports city of Duesseldorf is a world-class event!“, said Mayor Guenter Karen-Jungen.

The 33-year-old clocked 13:27,54 minutes in the 5,000m, improving the almost 20-year-old German national record of Stéphane Franke by 2.61 seconds. „When I heard the Arne-Arne chants on the last lap, I knew I would break the record“, said Gabius thus praising the Duesseldorf crowds. Gabius’s time was also a new World lead 2015 and the first national record in Duesseldorf since 2011.
Just a few minutes later US American Ryan Whiting, 2012 and 2014 indoor World champion, with 20.38m in the shot put, and Poland’s Adam Kszczotin with 1:46,48min in the 800m achieved two further World leads. It was Kszczot’s fourth successive victory in Duesseldorf.
The crowds‘ favourite Kim Collins, of St. Kitts and Nevis (60m/6.52sec), Kenyan Nixon Chebseba (3,000m/7:44,72min) and Belorussian Alina Talay (60m hurdles/7.96sec) added the other World leads.
Kristin Gierisch was the second German winner of the day in triple jump. She recorded 14.30m, retaining her victory of last year 16 centimetres ahead of European champion Olga Saladuha (Ukraine).
