IAAF Coordination Commission visits Beijing with just over six months to go until World Championships
"With six months to go, the organising committee are nearly ready. All is well prepared," commented Digel, the IAAF Organisational Delegate for the championships.
"We were having a two-day meeting with the organising committee and this meeting was very successful.
"The organising committee is having a lot of good ideas. The opening ceremony of our championships will be very special," he added. "Spectators from all over the world will have beautiful experiences in this metropolitan city of Beijing."
The 2015 IAAF World Championships will be held in Beijing's National Stadium from 22-30 August, the first time the event has been held in China.
Famously known as the ‘Bird's Nest’, the National Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics events of the 2008 Olympic Games.
The organisers also took the opportunity to announce that they have selected seven Chinese athletes to work as promotion ambassadors for the event.
Among the seven are 2004 Olympic 110m hurdles champion and local icon Liu Xiang, Olympic 20km race walk champion Chen Ding as well as the rising long jump star Li Jinzhe, the world indoor silver medallist.
"To summarise, we are perfectly in time and the organising committee are really working professionally," said Digel. "We believe these World Championships are going to be our biggest success."
