A comfortable private apartment instead of a faceless hotel room – the sharing economy has established itself as part of the international travel industry. At this year’s ITB Berlin Convention April Rinne, advisor on the sharing economy, illustrated how new business models are changing the way we travel. Providers and holidaymakers around the world are able to make direct contact without intermediaries. New technologies and demographic change are contributing to growth. According to Rinne, the travel industry must decide on how to benefit from this new movement.

Taking as its slogan “Time to visit Russia“ the country is currently looking to attract more visitors. According to a statement by the Russian Federal Tourism Agency at ITB Berlin, the weak rouble and foreign tourists’ higher spending power makes Russia a particularly attractive destination for tourists. Besides attracting visitors to well-known cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg the travel industry intends to focus more on the cities of the ’golden ring’, including Uglich, Yaroslavl, the ancient city of Kazan, Yekaterinburg, as well as the Kamchatka Peninsula.
