RUNNING GERMANY: DUESSELDORF AND COLOGNE – Cooperation between METRO GROUP Marathon Düsseldorf an RheinEnergieMarathon Köln

By GRR 0

From now on METRO GROUP Marathon Düsseldorf and RheinEnergieMarathon Köln are working together at expos abroad. The aim of this collaboration is to present the both biggest marathon events of the metropolitan area "Rhineland" (North Rhine-Westphalia) at several marathon expositions abroad.

This region with a population of approx. seven million is located in the heart of Europe. Köln as well as Düsseldorf present two cities with international flair that are easily available via the airports of Düsseldorf and Cologne/ Bonn from everywhere abroad.

There are many touristic highlights like one of the most significant cathedrals of the world having the status of a world cultural heritage, the Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral) and twelve grand collegiate churches and monasteries of Romanesque style which reside within the course of the medieval city wall of Cologne. Düsseldorf with its picturesque ruin of the former "Kaiserpfalz" (imperial palace) founded in 1184 and the aristocratic "Benrather Schloss" (Benrath castle), completed in 1773 are landmarks of a long history.

The region provides a huge variety of culture and history with its theatres, operas, galleries, museums, public parks and gardens, major personalities and monuments (including Europe`s biggest net of gas lanterns in Düsseldorf) – they have and will play an important role in the history of Germany and Europe.

Both metropolis are connected through the Rhine – one of the biggest rivers of the continent. They are situated on the banks of the Rhine within a marathon distance apart. The friendly Rhenish lifestyle and the joie-de-vivre of the Rhinelander's can, for example, be experienced in many domestic breweries and bier gardens, where the famous types of beer like "Kölsch" (Cologne) and "Alt" (Düsseldorf) are offered. At the marathon race participants can be seen wearing various creative costumes to strengthen the typical spirit.

"We will promote the two biggest marathon events in North Rhine-Westphalia with more than 40,000 runners at several marathon expos abroad by a joint expo booth and presentation. Thus, we will increase the number of participants to register for both events. The metropolitan area of the Rhineland is always worth a trip and the people here are known for their excellent hospitality", as the Race Directors Jan Henning Winschermann, METRO GROUP Marathon Düsseldorf and Markus Frisch, RheinEnergieMarathon Köln are convinced.

As both big races are taking place at a different time of the year – METRO GROUP Marathon Düsseldorf in spring on April, 26th and RheinEnergieMarathon Köln in autumn on October, 4th 2015 there is a good chance for runners to register for the two events. Both marathons stand for a very high organizational quality, a huge number of spectators along the race track and a fast round course through the city centre.

The RheinEnergieMarathon Köln with its finish line at the "Kölner Dom" (Cologne Cathedral) provides a full marathon, half-marathon distance and a relay race where 4 runners share the full distance. According to the motto "Dein Köln. Dein Ziel" (Your Cologne. Your aim) a number of 22,000 runners will again start the race on October, 4th 2015 and will overcome the sporting challenge.

The METRO GROUP Marathon Düsseldorf with its diversified city course and the finish area located alongside the river Rhine provide the marathon distance as well as the World's biggest relay race as part of a marathon event.

On April 26th 20,000 runners will face this sporting challenge again in the capital city of North-Rhine Westphalia.
