USA Track & Field – News – Huddle and True set pending American records at B.A.A. 5k

BOSTON — Two American road racing records went down Saturday, as Molly Huddle and Ben True won the women's and men's elite races at the B.A.A. 5k, kicking off the Boston Marathon weekend.

Huddle (Providence, Rhode Island) was in fine form Saturday, shattering the standing American record of 14:54 set by Deena Kastor's in 2002. Huddle crossed in 14:50, a pending American record.

True (Hanover, New Hampshire) won the men's race in 13:22, edging the standing American record of 13:24 set by Marc Davis in 1996. True's time is an American record, pending verification.

Both standing 5k records, set by Kastor and Davis, were contested at the Carlsbad 5000.

The B.A.A. 5k kicks off a weekend of racing in Boston, concluding with Marathon Monday and the 119th running of the Boston Marathon.

Live coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. ET on Universal Sports.
