Thank You, Mary
After 17 years with NYRR, and 10 as the organization's president and CEO, Mary Wittenberg is leaving to embark on a new journey as Global CEO of Virgin Sport. All of us at NYRR will miss Mary, and we're grateful for her unyielding commitment to the organization and the global running community during her years here.
As a runner and a leader, she will have a lasting impact on us. She has stood with us as we've challenged ourselves and inspired others. She has led an organization that has focused, first and foremost, on runners. She has been a friend to us all, offering words of encouragement at the start of races, and hugs and high-fives at the finish.
She feels our pain and celebrates our joy. She embodies who we are as runners: Our will to push ourselves to be the best we can be. She shares our commitment to community and to our great city, from borough to borough.
Though Mary is leaving us, we are all better for knowing her. She has shared the past decade, leading us, and now she moves on to new challenges.
On behalf of the thousands of people she has touched over the years–from the staff at New York Road Runners to our great volunteers and of course, to the runners who are so important to her–thank you Mary for believing in us, for encouraging us, for pushing us, and for being one of us.
We'll miss you.
