KOSICE MARATHON – Košice – European City of Sports 2016

The evaluating comitte has decided that Košice will become European City of Sport 2016. During the evaluation process many aspects were taken into account.

The fact that since 1924 there is a traditional marathon organized and today thousands of Košice inhabitants take part in it for sure helped the city to succeed.

The European City  of Sport is an award from ACES (European Capitals of Sport Association)that has been given since 2001 for a period of one calendar year.

In 2013 Košice was European Capital of Culture.

The new title of European City of Sports will bring additional positive effects towards city sport infrastructure and life style of the people living in this modern European city.
