Welcome to RunFun Travel – Plan Your 2016 Marathon – Women in Half Marathons – Left Behind on Planes

So when to do you start planning your next marathon? Well, if it's a local one, you should have your plans (and training) well in place six months out. If you're heading overseas, it takes a lot more planning in terms of work, training and life in general.

Marathon & Lifestyle Travel Specialists       Now that we've recovered from the Antarctic Vortex, winter has returned to its sunny, blue sky self. I for one, am glad that's over!
This time of year sees a bit of a lull as runners concentrate their energies on training up for the upcoming marathons. Heads down, tails up, long runs on the weekend, with that goal of finishing a marathon well within their sights.

So when to do you start planning your next marathon? Well, if it's a local one, you should have your plans (and training) well in place six months out. If you're heading overseas, it takes a lot more planning in terms of work, training and life in general.

Why Women are Running More Marathons?
Half Marathons are quickly becoming the more favoured event for women as they are attracted to the festival like atmosphere. Recent data from Running USA shows roughly 1.2 million women finished a half marathon (in the US) last year.  One of the major influences on women running half marathons is that women see the distance as more doable than a marathon but more rewarding than a 5km.

Marathon organisers are also starting to cotton on to this burgeoning market, with pink tutus and tiaras at the starting line, Tiffany & Co. necklaces and flutes of Champagne at the finish. Half marathons are being seen as more than a competition and viewed as a 'girls' weekend getaway.' Women also love the added extras on course – bands to keep the rhythm going, supporters along the way and snacks to keep energised. It makes the event fun and not as serious, something women can relate to. Women's only half marathons can also provide women with a stress free environment where they can feel inspired, empowered and comfortable in their bodies, no matter their size. Social media also plays a role in engaging more women in running due to the support structure it creates.

Women tend to be more social creatures than men.  It's the camaraderie that brings women to the sport of running. If you stop and walk, no one is going to judge you. Having a support group keeps women running, even when you don't feel like getting out of bed.  And there's nothing better than crossing the finish line with your friends, all having completed your half marathon challenge! There are many half marathons around the world, both mixed and women's only.

If you have a group of friends and you want a girls' getaway contact us and let's chat (something else women are good at!)
