This year the 100Meilen commemorate Marienetta Jirkowsky. She died at the age of only 18 in the year 1980 during the attempt to overcome the border fortifications in Hohen Neuendorf. Here, where once the deadly shots were fired, is now a memorial. ©100 Miles Berlin - The wall race

Last year the Wall Race was dedicated to Peter Fechter, who lost his life in a dramatic manner at Checkpoint Charlie in 1962 during his escape attempt.

The finisher medal showed his image in his honor, additionally the participants set down a red rose at the Peter-Fechter-Memorial at the Zimmerstrasse. That has been a very touching moment within this sportive event!

This year the 100Meilen commemorate Marienetta Jirkowsky. She died at the age of only 18 in the year 1980 during the attempt to overcome the border fortifications in Hohen Neuendorf. Here, where once the deadly shots were fired, is now a memorial.

And exactly at this place, after 24.5 kilometers, the community of Hohen Neuendorf is going to put up a pinboard for everyone to share his or her thoughts and feelings in relation to Marienetta Jirkowsky and the other Wall victims.

To support this, small cards will be spread during the race pack pick-up (14 August, 12:00 to 19:00, Ramada-Hotel at Alexanderplatz). Everyone is invited to fill out one of those cards prior to the race and carry it to the memorial.

The pinboard with the collection of cards will be exhibited at the award ceremony at Hotel Ramada at Alexanderplatz.

We would be very happy if as many runners as possible will join in to this initiative!
