DULUTH, Minn. – Grandma’s Marathon-Duluth, Inc. announced that registration for the 40th Grandma’s Marathon Weekend, which includes Grandma's Marathon, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and William A. Irvin 5K, will open at midnight on October 1, 2015. This is the first time that registration for all three races will open on the same day.

“We have big plans for the 40th running of Grandma's Marathon including a commemorative lift bridge medal and exclusive jackets for those that register early,” says Shane Bauer, executive director of Grandma's Marathon. “We're excited to have all three races open October 1 so runners will be confirmed and ready to train when the calendar flips to 2016.”

Entries for Grandma's Marathon will be taken on a first come, first served basis until the race reaches 8,500 participants. New this year, those who jump on the chance to run the 26.2-mile race before December 31 will receive an exclusive, commemorative 40th anniversary track jacket free of charge. After December 31, runners will have the option to purchase the jacket at a discounted price.

The entry process for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is conducted through a lottery in which 7,500 participants will be randomly selected. Half-marathon hopefuls can submit their registration for the lottery anytime between October 1 and October 31. The drawing will be conducted during the week of November 2, and selected participants will be notified via email.

The William A. Irvin 5K is limited to the first 2,000 participants. The 3.1-mile race will feature a new racecourse, and for the first time in the 23-year history of the event, all finishers will be awarded a medal.

The entry fee for the 40th celebration of Grandma’s Marathon starts at $100 with price increases scheduled until the race limit is met (see below for complete pricing structure). The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is $85 and the William A. Irvin 5K is $35.

Those looking for the ultimate race experience, are invited to take the Great Grandma’s Challenge, which pairs the 5K with either the full or half marathon. Registration for the Great Grandma's Challenge is limited to the first 500 individuals and will also be available starting October 1.
