Children Rights and Mega Sporting – Media Coverage of Human Rights

One year ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, Terre des Hommes launched the Children Rights and Mega Sporting Events in 2014 report and called for an increase in media coverage and scrutiny on Mega Sporting Events.

The report was conducted by Karen Petry and Till Müller-Schoell of the Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies of the German Sport University Cologne. Both scientists analysed cuttings from 24 different sources in 12 countries from 2014, the year of the Sochi Winter Olympics and Paralympics, Commonwealth Games and FIFA World Cup.

The summary of the findings and full report can be found here

Economic Costs of Physical Inactivity in Europe – Report

The economic costs of physical inactivity in Europe have been presented in a new report commissioned by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) and produced by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).

The report acknowledges the increasing trend of physical inactivity, its risks to European citizens' well-being and its growing challenge for European economies. It also reveals some figures such as that not moving is killing half a million people across EU every year what costs the European economy over 80 billion Euro.
