KOSICE (SVK, Oct 4): New record of participants 11.000 in all races (from 49 countries) marked the 92nd International Kosice Peace Marathon.

In nearly ideal weather (14 degrees at start and 16 at finish with no wind) and great help of sub 2:08 runner Evans Ruto as pacemaker (1:04:00 half) for 30 km the course record nearly fell.

The 29 years old Kenyan Samuel Kosgei who was also WR holder at 25 km in the past improved the pace in last 5 km and clocked new PB 2:07:07. In his third marathon he missed the course record of Lawrence Kimayio from 2012 by only six seconds (2:07:01).

Second Collins Tanui who competed in his second marathon (first in July in Iten 2:16 at altitude) improved hugely to 2:08:08. Third Riga winner this year Ethiopian Haile Tolossa also clocked personal best 2:11:05.

They were followed by more Kenyans, fourth Charles Toroitich Cheruiyot 2:11:30 ahead of Martin Kosgei 2:11:33 and Hassan Mokaya 2:13:34. Overall 8th was new Slovak champion Juraj Vitko in 2:25:01.

Top woman Ethiopian Mulu Diru was leading from first km´s, she started at sub 2:30 pace (1:15:11 half) but in second lap faded and won in 2:35:33.

Second Abebu Gelan who is Belgrade winner this year achieved in her second marathon 2:40:57 and third Kenyan Dorcus Chesang 2:51:34.
