European junior 400m champion Lavai Nielsen (coach: Frank Adams) kicked off the New Year with a 300m PB of 38.70. Her Enfield and Haringey club-mate Khai Riley-La Borde (Ray Gibbins) clocked a PB of 7.74 in the men’s 60m hurdles, while Harrow’s Marilyn Nwawular (Lloyd Cowan) was just 0.01 shy of her lifetime best with 8.36 in the women’s 60m hurdles.
There were some fine PBs in the men’s 60m series with 19-year-old Theo Etienne (Ryan Freckleton) clocking 6.70 and Kyle de Escofet (Andy Paul) 6.71, and some excellent life time bests in the pole vault. Nikko Hunt (Christian North), 17, cleared 5.06m and Jessica Robinson, 15, 3.86m.
GAA Miller and BMC Indoor Meet, Emirates Arena, Glasgow, 3 January
Jo Moultrie (William Parker) was a convincing winner of the Scottish women’s indoor 3000m title. The Victoria Park City of Glasgow athlete clocked 8:57:14, with Lothian’s Sarah Inglis (Mark Bomba) a distant second in 9:22.99 and Sale’s Jenna Hill (Andrew Hobdell) third in 9:27.36. Falkirk’s Ben Stevenson won the men’s 3000m title in 8:17.64 – ahead of Trafford’s James Bowness (William Parker), who took silver in 8:22.73, and Shettleston’s Lachlan Oates (John Montgomery), third in 8:27.07.
European U23 Championship 800m semi-finalist Jamie Webb (Adrian Webb) was a winner over 600m in 1:18.78. Perth’s Commonwealth Youth Games 800m bronze medallist Ben Greenwood clocked 1:19.47 in second, going third on the UK all-time under 20 list.

New York Road Runners Midnight Run, New York City, USA, 31 December
Former Commonwealth 1500m champion Lisa Dobriskey (Ricky Soos) continued her comeback with an outing in the New York Road Runners’ annual four mile race in Central Park on New Year’s Eve. The 32-year-old, who is now based in Flagstaff, Arizona finished fifth in 22:27, 1:14 behind women’s race winner Sarah Pagano of the USA.
It was only the second race since the British Championships in July 2013 for the injury-plagued Dobriskey, the 1500m silver medallist from the 2009 World Championships in Berlin had hip surgery in April last year.
La Corrida de Houilles 10k, Paris, France, 27 December
British half marathon champion Ryan McLeod (Mike McLeod) clocked his fastest 10km road time for four years, 29:18, finishing tenth. The 30-year-old Tipton Harrier – coached by his father Mike, the 1984 Olympic 10,000m silver medallist – was the second European home in a race won in 28:10 by Kenya’s Cornelius Kangogo. His time, 14 seconds shy of his 2011 PB, elevated him to equal ninth in the final UK rankings for 2015.
McLeod was one of four Britons in the top twenty. The Hawkins brothers, Callum and Derek (both coached by Robert Hawkins), fought a ding dong battle, Callum finishing 12th in 29:23 and Derek 13th in 29:24, a PB. Deeside’s Robbie Simpson clocked a lifetime best of 29:36 in 17th place.
Sonia Samuels (self-coached), part of the gold medal winning senior women’s team at the European Cross Country Championship in December, finished ninth in the women’s race in 33:37.
BO Classic 10k, Bolzano, Italy, 31 December
Ross Millington (Steve Vernon) finished an excellent sixth in the annual Bolzano Classic 10k on New Year’s Eve. The Stockport Harrier was in the lead pack until just before halfway but held on in impressive global company to finish top European in 29:23 – one place and two seconds ahead of Thomas Longosiwa, the Kenyan who took Olympic 5000m bronze at London 2012.
Bolton’s Tom Lancashire (Vernon) was 18th in 30:52 and Highgate’s Shaun Dixon (Ben Noad) 21st in 31:12.
