Procam International geared up for the 13th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2016

Mumbai, 13th January 2016: Procam International, promoters of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) 2016, today announced and put forward their preparedness to host the 13th edition of Asia’s Premier Marathon in the SCMM Media Centre at Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Mumbai.

Milind Bharambe, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Vivek Singh, Jt. MD, Procam International, Hugh Jones, Race Director, Dr. Nilesh Gautam, Medical Director and Satish Uchil, AFI Technical delegate announced the various measures and facilities put in place to facilitate the smooth flow of the event and give the participants a satisfying running experience.

The Full Marathon for Amateurs will be flagged off from outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) at 5.40 am followed by the Full Marathon for the Elite and Indian athletes at 7.20 am. Both these races will finish at CST.

The two relay races in the Full Marathon – the DHL Corporate Champions and a competitive event for the city’s police, the Police Cup will be flagged off at 5.55 am from CST. The DHL Corporate Champions will see participation from 91 teams while the Police Cup will have 16 teams; each team comprises of 4 members, who will run approximately 10.5 km each. The winners of the Police Cup will be awarded a rotating trophy along with merit certificates and medals to the members. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and the runner-up team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 40,000.

 

For the 13th edition, the Half Marathon will have a new start point with a more natural route and fewer sharp turns. The race will be flagged off at 5.40 a.m from Worli Dairy, then go on to the Sea Link, and trace the same route back as the Marathon to finish opposite CST.

For the convenience of the participants, Free Shuttle Service for Half Marathon runners wearing valid bib numbers is available from Currey Road station on the Central Railway and Lower Parel on the Western Railway line. These buses will operate from 3.30 am to 5.00 am on race day 17th January 2015.

The event for Champions with Disability will begin at 07.35 am from CST and finish near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan, opposite Metro Adlabs, and so will the Senior Citizens Run, starting at CST at 8.00 am before finishing near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan. The Dream Run will begin at 9.00 am from CST and finish near Gate No. 3 of Azad Maidan.

The Senior Citizens’ Run will be flagged off by Tina Ambani, Founder & Chairperson, Harmony For Silvers Foundation, Bollywood personalities R Madhavan, Juhi Chawla and Gulshan Grover.

The occasion was also used to announce the arrangements instituted by Asian Heart Institute, the Medical Partner to the event for the past twelve years in succession. AHI has contributed state-of-the-art facilities and services for the runners. With its entire medical infrastructure in place, Asian Heart Institute can aptly handle any medical emergency – injuries, dehydration, or any other complication arising due to long distance running.

The facilities available on the Race Day are as under:

  • Medical Stations: 12 Stations (including 2 Base Camps)
  • Ambulances: 10
  • Doctors on Duty: 500
  • Medics on bikes: 7
  • 30 media spotters will be available in the last three kilometers

For the convenience of the participants, the other arrangements on the route are

  • Water – 1 lakh, 35 thousand litres
  • Energy Drink Stations – 8
  • Orange Stations – 11
  • Cool Sponge Stations – 11
  • Water Stations – 27
  • Chemical Loos – 371, Urinals 22
  • Toilets on the route – 72

Ensuring that all participants enjoy a safe and secure run will be 2000 Law & Order and Traffic Police deployed on Race Day, along with 1600 security guards and 1400 volunteers.

The event will be telecast live on Star Sports 4, Star Sports HD 4 and Hotstar the Channel Partner from 7.00 am to 11.00 am.
