Run4Hope aims to raise $1 million for charity at the BMO Vancouver Marathon

By GRR 0

Vancouver, BC – March 11, 2016 – The Run4Hope program at the BMO Vancouver Marathon has secured 42 charities for the event’s 45th year with an ambitious goal to help runners raise $1 million for numerous local and international causes by May, 1st 2016.

Initiated by the non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society, the Run4Hope program has helped runners raise more than $13 million for charities over the past decade. Charities also contribute to the 4,000 volunteers that are needed annually to make Vancouver’s only marathon event a success.

“We are so thankful to the runners and to all of the volunteers who give back,” adds Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society, organizers of the event. “It is very inspiring to see the unselfishness of our running community and their greater impact.”

While Run4Hope charity runners fundraise on behalf of charities and in return enjoy 40% off of their race registration, anyone can donate to the 42 charity partners through the event’s website, bmovanmarathon.ca.

In total, the number of participating charities has increased 40% in one year, with several new charity partners joining the program including the BC Cancer Foundation, the BC Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, SportAbility CP Sports of BC, and True Sport.

The non-profit Vancouver International Marathon Society is, in fact, the first sport organization in British Columbia to establish a fund in partnership with the True Sport Foundation, and through its RUNVAN® Development Fund, helps to bring accessible sport and assistance to aspiring elite runners and youth.

Runners of all abilities are welcome. BMO Vancouver Marathon weekend actually features six different races including a Kids Run, new 2.5KM Walk, 8KM Race, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon and Marathon.
