But a member of the ESA and UK Space Agency team will be bidding for a record of his own when he lines up at the Start Line of the Virgin Money London Marathon in a spacesuit.

Jonathan Scott, Medical Projects and Technology Team lead for ESA’s Space Medicine Office, will run as part of ‘Team Astronaut’ in a replica of the Sokol space suit, the Russian suit that all astronauts wear when travelling with the Soyuz capsule to and from the International Space Station.

Should Jonathan complete the marathon in under four hours 30 minutes, he will be recognised by the Guinness World Records as holding a new world record for ‘Fastest marathon by a man wearing a replica space suit.’

To find out more about Jonathan’s world record attempt, read his ESA blog here.
