Athletics Australia – News – ROAD RUNNING
Australia’s road and cross country running season is now upon us and, as excitement ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games continues to build, we are pleased to confirm details of the 2016 Australian Road Running Championships, 2016 Australian Half Marathon Championships and 2016 Australian Marathon Championships.
To be hosted in conjunction with some of the nation’s most prestigious, the three events combine to form Athletics Australia’s Out-Of-Stadium Championships for 2016.
The 2016 Australian Half Marathon Championships will be the first of the three events hosted on Sunday 3 July. It will be run as part of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, one of the nation’s most reputable road races and one of only two running events in Australia carrying the IAAF Gold Label status.
For the first time, Adelaide (SA) will welcome the 2016 Australian Road Running Championships, with the Sunday Mail City-Bay Fun Run to feature an elite race to determine the male and female national champions across twelve kilometres on Sunday 18 September.
The grand finale will be the 2016 Australian Marathon Championships, with the Medibank Melbourne Marathon on Sunday 16 October set to play host for the first time since 2014.
