Chaunte Lowe clears Olympic Standard at Rio Test Event – USA Track & Field – News

Three-time Olympian Chaunte Lowe is one step closer to competing in her fourth Olympic Games after clearing the 1.93m/6-4 Olympic standard and setting a world lead in high jump Saturday at the Ibero-American Championships, the Rio 2016 Track & Field test event held at Estádio Olímpico do Engenhão.

Lowe jumped into the competition at 1.81m/5-11.25, with first-time clearances over 1.84m/6-0.5 and 1.87m/6-1.5. She got over 1.90m/6-2.75 on her second jump, finishing with a world-leading win of 1.96m/6-5 for a season best and her best jump since clearing 1.97m/6-5.5 in 2014.

"I am just so thankful for he opportunity," said Lowe, "and I definitely feel like I have more in the tank."

The Rio 2016 test event marks the third time in 2016 Lowe has cleared the Olympic standard, including 1.95m/6-4.75 indoors at Albuquerque on Feb. 6 and outdoors in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 28 before 1.93m/6-4 at USATF Indoor Championships on March 12.

In order to make the U.S. Olympic Team, Lowe must finish among the top three competitors at US Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field in July.
