’AIMS SUPPORTS ‘GLOBAL RUNNING DAY’

By admin 0

The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) would like to encourage its members and runners from around the world to support ‘Global Running Day’ and the initiative ‘Million Kid Run’ which aims to have one million young people pledge to run on Wednesday 1 June 2016.

Global Running Day is an evolution of National Running Day that was created in the USA in 2009 by a number of leading running organisations and races. One of those groups was the New York Road Runners, the running organisation responsible for the TCS New York City Marathon, a founding member of AIMS. This is the first year that the Million Kid Run has been included in the event.

To pledge to get involved, participants can visit www.globalrunningday.org and commit to run on 1 June 2016. Runners can pledge on behalf of themselves and/or a group and the pledge page is designed for kids, adults, able-bodied runners and athletes with disabilities. The total number of people who have pledged to run as part of Global Running Day and the Million Kid Run can be seen on the website.

As part of Global Running Day many races around the world are organising events for runners to participate in. Runners can also pledge to run independently wherever they are by registering to participate at www.globalrunningday.org.

AIMS President Paco Borao comments: “We at AIMS are delighted to support this excellent initiative from our friends and founder members at the TCS New York City Marathon and all of the running organisations that created Global Running Day. We strongly believe that running should be accessible for everyone and we would like to encourage our member races and runners of all ages and backgrounds from around the world to participate in Global Running Day and the Million Kid Run”.
