USA Track & Field – News and Notes – Wednesday, June 15, 2016 – Team USA set for Pan American Cup

OTTAWA, Canada — This weekend marks the fourth annual commencement of the Pan American Combined Events Cup, taking place June 17-19 in Ottawa, Canada. The Pan Am Cup is a fixture of the IAAF World Combined Event Challenge, bringing together elite heptathletes and decathletes of the Western Hemisphere.

Among the American athletes competing in this year’s Pan Am Cup, Allison Reaser, Kiani Profit, and Quintunya Chapman will represent the United States in the heptathlon, while Tim Ehrhardt, Scott Filip, and Michael Morrison will compete in the decathlon.

Morrison, a former standout at the University of California, captured the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championship title with a Cal school record of 8,118 points. Morrison has since trained his way back to the decathlon. Meanwhile in the Heptathlon, Chapman, a former University of Georgia standout, set her collegiate best heptathlon score of 6,147 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Chapman placed third in the event, and is registered to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials in July.

The Pan Am Combined Events Cup is scheduled to begin on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. with the decathlon. The Heptathlon is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 18 at 12:00 p.m.

U.S. athletes compete at Stockholm Diamond League ahead of #TrackTown16

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — One week removed from last week’s Diamond League meet held in Oslo, Norway, Thursday, June 16 marks the eighth Diamond League meeting of the year, this time held in Stockholm, Sweden.

After sitting out of last week’s Oslo meet, American record holder Kendra Harrison looks to regain control of the lead in the Diamond Race. 2013 World champion Brianna Rollins claimed the lead after winning the 100m hurdles in Oslo with a time of 12.56. The top four Diamond League 100m hurdlers represent the United States, with Rollins (22 pts.) claiming the lead, followed by Harrison (20 pts.), Dawn Harper-Nelson (9 pts.), and Jasmin Stowers (8 pts.). Nia Ali, Kendra Harrison, and Queen Harrison are the sole American entered for Thursday’s 100m hurdles.

In the men’s 400 meter hurdles Michael Tinsley looks to maintain his position at the top of the Diamond Race, after placing third in last week’s 400 meter hurdles event in Oslo. Right behind him, American Kerron Clement finished in fourth place, consequently falling behind Turkey’s Yasmani Copello. Tinsley is currently in the lead in the Diamond League Race with 24 points, followed by Copello (14), and Clement (9).
