Nairobi hosts Gender Specific Aspects of Training Female Athletes seminar
The IAAF Regional Development Centre in Nairobi, headed by Ibrahim Hussein, hosted a seminar entitled ‘Gender Specific Aspects of Training Female Athletes’ on 28-30 December.
The seminar was organised by the IAAF member services department in collaboration with the medical and anti-doping department. 19 female athletics coaches from 12 different English-speaking African countries attended this first exclusively female-dedicated lecture.
The three-day programme covered a range of important topics relating specifically to female athletes, ranging from the implication of the menstrual cycle on training and injury, to nutritional requirements, to exercise physiology and doping.
The seminar proved to be a great success, so much so that other similar seminars are envisaged in due course.
