Pole Vault Women: A Swiss Duo and the World’s Elite at Zurich Main Station – Weltklasse Zürich

By GRR 0

On the eve before Weltklasse Zürich at the Letzigrund Stadium, the athletics outdoor circuit takes a side trip to Zurich Main Station: Nicole Büchler and Angelica Moser, the Swiss stars of pole vault, and the international world elite will compete in another spectacular street athletics show at Switzerland’s busiest train station.

Weltklasse Zürich at Zurich Main Station will once again offer a lot of urban pole vault action this summer. The world’s best athletes will be flying high in front of 2,000 excited spectators in the extraordinary temporary arena. Both passersby in the standing area (free admission), and the audience in seats (tickets sold out) get to follow the competition from up close and to experience the fascinating event from a unique perspective.

The mixture of the fans’ rhythmic clapping and the star’s favourite music has become a trademark feature of the iconic event. The DJ, the fans, and the urban backdrop will all contribute some extra motivation, fun and excitement to the competition and create an entirely new way of experiencing athletics.

International top stars vs local hero duo

Watching the star-studded field of ten pole vaulters compete from such close range will be exciting. Swiss national record holder Nicole Büchler and U23 European champion Angelica Moser are the two local heroes in the cast of the show. Their opponents include the top seven finalists of the recent world championships in London.

World and Olympic champion Ekaterini Stefanidi from Greece is the top favourite. Silver medallist Sandi Morris of the USA and the two bronze medallists Robeilys Peinado (Venezuela) and Yarisley Silva (Cuba), as well as 2016 Weltklasse Zürich winner Holly Bradshaw (GBR), however, will all want to have a say in the prestigious competition. And so will the leading German pole vaulter Lisa Ryzih who placed fifth in London, Alysha Newman (Canada), seventh at the world championships, as well as Katie Nagotte (USA).

SRF zwei live coverage

After the men’s immensely successful debut in 2015, their female colleagues are competing at Switzerland’s busiest train station for the second time. Between 2011 and 2013, shot putters had been in charge of getting the Zurich fans into the right mood for the IAAF Diamond League Finals.

The extraordinary pole vault street show will again be broadcast live by SRF zwei starting 7.30pm. Viewers around the world will have the opportunity to watch the Weltklasse Zürich at Zurich Main Station live stream.

The event starts at 5pm with the warm-up. The competition begins – with the support of mascot Cooly, of course – at 6.30pm.
