60th Berlin Cross-Country Race on November 9, 2024 – Traditional event in Berlin’s Grunewald
On November 8, 1964, a new era of running sports began in Berlin and Germany (West) with the 1st Berlin Cross-Country Race at Teufelsberg of the Free University of Berlin (Sports Department).
The Berlin Cross-Country Race at Teufelsberg has made its own piece of sporting history to this day. 700 participants – a record number at that time – followed the invitation of the students of the Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) in 1964.
Over the years, the race has taken place at various locations, including the Maifeld and the equestrian stadium in the Olympic Park. After 2022, the race will take place for the third time with the start and finish at the Eichkamp Stadium (Julius-Hirsch-Sportanlage – Harbigstraße 40 in Charlottenburg).

The organizer is Heiko Schilff, who is also a coach at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) and in the athletics department of SCC – and at the same time the sports coordinator of the Berlin Athletics Association (BLV).
The long and successful tradition of the Berlin Cross-Country Race is to be “kissed awake” again and further developed, offering local runners an extended range of running options for the fall and winter season
