The real heroes of the 50th Berlin Marathon in 2024 are the finishers from the premiere in 1974:
Marty W. Teague/USA – 73 years in 5:17:59
Günter Hallas/Berlin – 82 years in 7:02:33 – winner of 1974
Peter Bartel/Berlin – 82 years in 8:59:18
Wilfried Köhnke/Berlin – 77 years – finished his 48th Berlin Marathon
Horst Milde, the founder and long-time race director of the Berlin Marathon, handed over the book for the 50th anniversary of the race, which took place last Sunday, to Berlin’s governing mayor Kai Wegner at the Berlin City Hall today.

Gerd Steins compiled this book and wrote it with the support of numerous authors who, like Steins, have known the Berlin Marathon and its history for decades.
