Congress Programme & Speakers
23rd World Congress of AIMS Batumi 2020 GeorgiaCongress will run from 23-25 April 2020 with sessions from 09.00-13.00 and 14.30-18.00 on Thursday 23 April and Friday 24 April, and then from 09.00-13.00 on Saturday 25 April. The Great Batumi Night Race starts at 19.45 on 25 April
The programme on Sunday 26 April will consist of a day excursion and the Farewell Dinner.
Chris Robb, organiser of the “Mass Participation Asia” Conference held annually in Singapore will present on the new technologies being used to assist in different aspects of marathon organisation. Chris will also act as moderator during the Congress.
Marcia Tyler, manager of the New York Road Runners’ volunteer program, will present on how technological advances have influenced the way in which volunteers are recruited, trained and managed.
Marcel Altenburg, inventor of the “Start Right” algorithm for predicting the flow of runners, presents on how to fine-tune your race using a well-managed starting procedure.
Other presentations (including those from AIMS partners) and group interactions will be interspersed with sessions attending to AIMS business, such as the President’s report, the activity of the various AIMS Commissions, changes to the Articles of Association, the election of members to the AIMS Board and the selection of the venue for the 24th World Congress of AIMS (see notice below).
24th World Congress of AIMS
The venue for the 24th World Congress of AIMS will be determined at the 23rd Congress on the basis of bids submitted by members interesting in acting as hosts.
The 24th Congress should be held sometime between November 2021 and October 2022. Members interested in hosting the 24th Congress should email the AIMS secretary (aimssec@aol.com) for an application form and guidelines which should be completed and returned by 31 March 2020.
„Integrity Programme“ for Road Racing
IAAF, now re-branded as “World Athletics” announced that $2.5million will be made available for out-of-competition testing of road runners.
The IAAF Road Race Label scheme will be the source of much of the funding, with labels now coming with a fixed price tag, in addition to money required to meet the label standards, at the following rates:
Marathons: Platinum $66,667, Gold $15,000, Silver $10,000, Bronze $5,000;
Other road races: Platinum $20,000, Gold $10,000, Silver $5,000, Bronze $2,500
It is claimed that costs will be shared among “all stakeholders: organisers, athlete managers and athletes” but it is likely that athletes and their managers will pass these costs on so that organisers are the indirect source of all new label revenues.

Russian Federation Suspension
AIMS members should not negotiate the entry or participation of any Russian athletes or support personnel (agents, coaches, etc.) in their races but: “In principle, ordinary fun runners with absolutely no ties to the Russian Federation are eligible to participate.” It is best to explicitly identify the participation of any ‘eligible’ Russian runners in advance of the race being held to avoid any misunderstanding with media outlets.
Those Russian athletes suspended under the IAAF ban are listed on www.dopingsanctions.com
Register of Doping Offenders
The US company Road Race Management maintains a listing of current and past road running and track and field athletes convicted of dope testing offences at: https://www.dopingsanctions.com/
