First ever BEG 5K Runway Run held at Airport Nikola Tesla Belgrade 2018 – Winners Amela Terzic and Nemanja Cerovac

For the first time in Serbia and region, on Sunday (10.06.2018.) night, starting at 1³⁰ AM was held BEG 5K Runway Run (5400m) or „Belgrade on Runway“ in Serbian capitol Belgrade.

Among 600 participants there were quite a few members of Serbian national athletics team in different events – ranging from 800 meters till marathon in both: men’s and women’s field.

Women’s field was headed by Amela Terzic, European and World Youth Junior, U23 multimedalist on 1500m, 3000m and European Cross Country Championships and Serbian national record holder at 800m (1:59.90) and 1500m (4:04,77), Marija Stambolic, 2:06 800m performer and Nevena Jovanovic, 10000m Serbian champion.

In Men’s filed there were, among others, Nikola Bursac, young 3:41 1500 m performer, Darko Zivanovic, 2012 London Olympics participant – in recent years the best Serbian marathon runner (2:17) and Nemanja Cerovac, 3:46,20 (1500m), 13:55,09 (5000m) performer and European Cross Country Junior and U23 multimedalist. Eventual winners were Amela Terzic and Nemanja Cerovac.

Organization of this event was huge challenge for everybody involved in it. Airport Nikola Tesla Belgrade has only one runway and once we decided to have the event it was obvious that it has to be during the night in a very short period of time, between 1 AM and 4 AM, where there is no regular air traffic at Belgrade airport – says Dejan Nikolic, Belgrade marathon director – the organizer of this unique event.

We are happy that, after Belgrade marathon (marathon, half marathon, 5k Fun run), Belgrade half marathon (21K and 10K), Women’s race, Children’s marathon and Belgrade race through history, we were able to add another attractive event at a very special place like Airport Nikola Tesla Belgrade is.

We are very thankful to the City of Belgrade which was the patron of this event and management and employees of Airport Nikola Tesla Belgrade – as a host of the event – for the support we got in organizing the race – continued Nikolic.

Ideal flat surface and mild weather conditions were followed by water cannon salute arches at the beginning of the race for all participants and for the winners later on, “Follow me” cars for leading athletes, airport ramp marshals with hand light signals – directing all runners and fantastic music entertainment during the whole event – concluded his report on the First BEG 5K Runway Run Dejan Nikolic, Belgrade marathon director.
