Manchester Half Marathon, 15 October
Scotland international Luke Traynor (Dudley Walker) produced a brilliant half marathon debut to win in Manchester in a quick 64.10, leading a number of athletes to personal bests. Peter Huck was runner-up in 65.03, over a minute quicker than he’s gone before, with Matt Clowes (self-coached) also running a fine 65.11 debut to edge out Robbie Simpson (Martin Cox) by 13 seconds for the final podium spot.
The ladies race was won by GB mountain running international Rebecca Hilland in 75.40 as she gears up for the Frankfurt Marathon.

TCS Amsterdam Marathon, Netherlands, 15 October
Wales’ Caryl Jones made a fine marathon debut at the Amsterdam Marathon, clocking 2.34.16, which importantly was inside the qualifying standard for next April’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. After a build-up that included a ninth place finish at the Great North Run in 74.22, it was clear she was in good shape and subject to selection will turn her focus to those Games on the Gold Coast in the spring.
Elsewhere, in the half marathon, Derek Rae (Ron Morrison) brought a close to a fine 2017 season, with a 71:59 clocking. After setting a PB (70:06) over the distance a couple of weeks ago at the Great Scottish Run, the Scot fought valiantly for seventh place overall.

Simplyhealth Birmingham Half Marathon, 15 October
Will Richardson (Peter Stewart) sliced a full three minutes off his personal best with a 66.38 winning time, four minutes clear of the rest of the field. Still a junior, Richardson looks in great shape at this early point in the winter season.
Chloe Richardson (Stewart) made it a family double over the distance, Will’s sister winning the women’s race in 81:39, in her first ever half marathon.

47th Giro Podistico di Pettinengo, Italy, 15 October
Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan-Nuttall) started her winter season with a strong fourth place finish in this international road race just outside Turin. Run over a short 4km distance, it unsurprisingly came down to a sprint finish, where the Scot bagged fourth.

Surrey League Cross Country, Reigate, 14 October
In perhaps the most competitive domestic cross country league of the weekend, GB international Nick Goolab (Craig Winrow) got the better of Andy Maud by just six seconds, with Paskar Owor a further 16 seconds back.

Alton Sports Hampshire League, Bournemouth, 14 October
Down in Bournemouth, Ellis Cross (Mick Woods) took the spoils at the Hampshire League, pulling clear of Alexander Teuten (Roderick Lock), those two well clear of the rest of the field. In the women’s race it was another AFD winner, Katie Bingle (Woods) finishing 30 seconds ahead of V35 winner Louise Damen.

Pre-Nationals, Louisville, USA, 14 October
Ryan Forsyth was the top British performer, the US based American an impressive 11th in the men’s race, three seconds and five places ahead of Alex George (Paul de-Camps), with 1500m man Neil Gourley (Ben Thomas) a solid 42nd in what is one of the biggest XC meets before the NCAA Championships.

Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, Wisconsin, USA, 13 October
In another major XC invitational across the pond, Charlotte Taylor and Alice Wright (Joe Franklin) were third and fourth in a quality field, the duo separated by just a single second. Their fellow GB internationals Bethan Knights (Shayla Houlihan) and Amy-Eloise Neale also performed well, finishing eighth and 14th in the 6km race. Ben Alcock was the leading Brit in the men’s race in 57th.
