Berlin Half Marathon, 2 April
Eilish McColgan (coach: Liz Nuttall, club: Dundee Hawkhill) lowered her British half-marathon record to a superb time of 65:43. Her previous best stood at 66:26 from 2022, and her record-breaking feat in the German capital also saw her move to fourth on the European all-time list.
There were also personal bests for Samantha Harrison (Vince Wilson, Charnwood) and Calli Thackery (Hallamshire) who posted times of 67:17 and 69:01 respectively.
Paralympic T12/13 1500m finalist David Devine (Tony Clarke, Liverpool Harriers) also improved his career best in the half marathon to 65:22.
Paris Marathon, 2 April
David Weir (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) geared up for the London Marathon later this month with a victory in the men’s wheelchair race in the French capital, while Eden Rainbow-Cooper (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) won the women’s race.
Weir held off the battle from Dutch athlete, Geert Schipper, to secure the win in a time of 1:34.23 – both athletes were given the same time.
Meanwhile, Rainbow-Cooper, who has been in superb form on the roads and on the track so far in 2023, pushed to a time of 2:03.01.
Pepsi Florida Relays, Gainesville, Florida, USA, 31 Mar-1 Apr 23
World bronze medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith (Gary Evans, Birchfield) ran a personal best over 200m in Florida in only his second race of the season. The time of 20.56 (0.3) was an improvement on his 20.68 clocking last April in a season where he went on to win double European gold, Commonwealth silver and also break the British record over 400m.
Stanford Invitational, Stanford California, USA, 31 Mar-1 Apr 23
European U23 Cross Country champion Charles Hicks (Shaftesbury Barnet) secured victory in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational, recording a time of 27:57.47 to cross the tape first.
Scott Beattie (Mike Bateman, Morpeth) and Rory Leonard (Morpeth) both ran personal bests in the same race. Beattie was fourth in 27:58.92 in what was a very close finish to the race, while Leonard was 12th in 28:21.30.
