Felix declares double
Allyson Felix has announced that she will double in the 200 and 400 meters at the IAAF World Championships next month in Daegu, South Korea.

Felix tweeted on Monday evening, “ Decided to go for the double (200/400) at WC’s. Will be very difficult, but first step to accomplishing greatness is trying #DaeguDouble”

Felix will first compete in the 400m, with rounds stretching from August 27-29. She will then have two days off before competing in the 200m on September 1-2. Felix could compete in all but one day of the nine day event, as she is expected to run on the U.S. 4×100 and 4×400 teams as well.

At the USA Championships, Felix became the first woman to win U.S. titles in the 100, 200 and 400m. With gold on her mind, Felix will attempt to become the second woman in history to win the 200/400 at a world championship. Only Marie Jose-Parec of France has been able to accomplish such a feat, which she did at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Gill Athletics Great American Throws Festival
The first-ever Gill Athletics Great American Throws Festival took place July 22-23 in Champaign, Ill. The event provided participants with one-on-one “Learn by Doing” opportunities with World Champion and two-time Olympian, John Godina.

Other highlights included a Factory tour and expert speakers along with a chance to compete in the various throwing competitions. Look for the event to return to Gill Athletics in 2012. For more information pertaining to Gill Athletics, check www.gillathletics.com.
